Easy Spring Snacks You Can Do with Your Child

Louise Savoie • May 11, 2021

Spring is here! Along with your spring cleaning, this season is also a good time to make easy-to-make healthy spring snacks that you can do with your preschooler after a day at his or her preschool in Yorba Linda CA or on the weekend.

Fruits and vegetables are bountiful at this time, so you can have them fresh and cheap. What’s more, you can turn this into a learning and bonding opportunity to teach your child that healthy snacks can be delicious too.

As a childcare provider in Yorba Linda CA ourselves, at Children’s Montessori Center of Yorba Linda , we make sure to take advantage of the season, so we’re excited to share with you some of our very own go-to snacks when fruits and veggies are particularly fresh. Here are two of our crowd favorites from teachers and children alike:

  • Apple ‘Donuts’

This quick energy booster is the perfect snack after a day at their Montessori Center in Yorba Linda CA. The best part is, it only needs two ingredients and a whole lot of creativity!

Instead of using dough, use apples! Make a donut out of your apples by carving a hole where the stem and seeds are, cut them horizontally, and use cream cheese as frosting. Let your child add their preferred toppings, whether nuts, chocolate, etc., and voila! You now have juicy and healthy donuts.

  • Rainbow Fruit Cups

Do you know what’s the best thing for your kiddo after a hot day at their Montessori School in Yorba Linda ? Coming home to a colorful, refreshing, and delicious dessert!

For this recipe, all you need is your choice of fruits (the more colorful, the better) in a cup, yogurt or whipped cream, and chopped nuts, toasted coconut shavings, or cookie crumbles, etc., to put on top.

Maria Montessori based her entire educational philosophy on the idea that children developed through a series of four planes. Each of these planes is easy to recognize and has clear, defining characteristics. If we study and understand these stages, we can approach our interactions with children with a new perspective.
